Updates
Checkboxes and hand-marked options now carry over to Word
On a form, sometimes what counts is a mark: a ✓ in a box or the option circled in a “Yes / No”. Some of those marks used to get lost along the way when you downloaded in Word. Not anymore.
What's changing
- ✓ marks stay as ✓. Before, a standalone ✓ could turn into a note like [check]. Now the symbol is kept.
- An option circled by hand still shows in the Word file. A circled letter or number (the “N” in “Y / N”, the “3” on a scale) comes out as a character inside a circle: Ⓝ, ③. Before, the circle was lost and it wasn't clear what had been chosen.
- Empty boxes and boxes marked with an X still come out as ☐ and ☒.
How it works
You don't have to do anything. Review the form as usual and download it in Word (DOCX): the marks come out on their own.
Good to know
- In the Review editor and in the PDF, the circled option is shown with a box around it, as in the original. The circled character is for the Word file, which doesn't keep that box.
- It works with single letters and with numbers from 0 to 20.
- It applies to the Word files you download from now on.
When to use it
With immigration forms, court orders, medical records, applications and surveys: any document where the answer is a mark and not a word.
