Lay out a document without translating it

With Layout mode, EZDocuAI rebuilds your document in its own language: a scan, a photo or a handwritten document becomes a clean, editable document with the original's formatting. Nothing is translated. You download it as a PDF or a Word file.

When to use it

• You have a scan or a photo and you need the text to be editable.
• You have a PDF without text: it looks fine, but you can't select or copy what it says.
• You have a handwritten document and you want it as text.
• You need the document editable in its own language, for example one in Chinese, Japanese or Korean that you're going to translate yourself or deliver as is.

If you need it in another language, use Translate.

How to create a layout order

1. Click New Order and choose Create order. If you only see the Create order button, click it.
2. Upload the file: PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), JPG, PNG, TIFF or WebP, up to 50 MB.
3. In Mode, choose Layout. Below it you'll see: “Layout only: reconstruct the document in its original language, no translation.”
4. Check the Document language. The Language and Country are detected automatically and you can change them. That language is used, for example, to write the marks for signatures and seals.
5. If you like, fill in the name, client, reference and due date.
6. Click Analyze & Continue.

In a project, choose Layout under What do you need?, or Decide per document if each file needs a different task.

What happens next

A layout order has three steps: Upload & Details, Processing and Review. A translation has a fourth, Translation.

1. Processing. EZDocuAI reads the document. In Layout, scans and photos are always read as editable text: it doesn't ask you whether you want to use Manuscript mode.
2. Other languages. If there seems to be text in another language, We found another language appears. Answer Yes, it's there or No, that's a mistake and click View result. What you confirm is transcribed as is; if you say no, that part is read again in the main language. This check doesn't use credits.
3. Uncertain details. If some detail couldn't be read with certainty, Verify document opens so you can confirm or correct it.
4. Review. You see the original on the left and the laid-out document on the right, and you correct it in the editor. A scan comes out as Option 2. A PDF with selectable text also offers you Option 1 (Word) and, sometimes, Option 3.
5. Click Finish Order, the green button.
6. In the window, choose the Export format, PDF or DOCX, and click Download PDF or Download DOC. You'll see “Order Completed!”.

What you get

• The document in its original language, as a PDF or Word (DOCX) file.
• The file has the document's name, without “translated”.
• It does not include a translation certificate, digital signature, Human Verified seal or the attached original: there's no translation to certify.
• Afterward you'll find it in Orders: open the order and, under Laid-out Document, click View. In the detail page, the order carries the Layout label.

How much it costs

1 credit per page, the same as a translation. It's charged when processing finishes, when the document moves to Review. You can see it in the finish window under Credits used. If you don't have enough, the Insufficient Credits notice appears.

FAQ

Does Layout translate anything? No. Everything stays in the original's language, including the parts in other languages.

Can I edit the result? Yes. In Review you correct it before finishing, and if you download it as DOCX you can keep editing it in Word.

I created the order to translate it, but I only need the document in its own language. In Review, download the DOCX. You'll get Finish without translating?: click Finish without translating and the order closes with the document in its own language. Next time, choose Layout when you create the order.

How much does Layout cost? The same as translating: 1 credit per page.

Can I use Layout through the API? Yes: the order is created with mode=layout and a key with the Layout service.
